Masaru Matsuo has completed his PhD at Kyoto University in Japan and he was a professor of Nara Women’s University. After his retirement, he became a full time professor of Dalian University of Technology in China. Since September 1st 2014, he is a visiting professor of Dalian University of Technology. He has published more than 200 papers in refereed journal articles. He is IUPAC fellow and “Certificate of Membership Award of ACS (July 2015~ July 2018). He received “Award of Society of Fiber Science and Technology of Japan on May 1990, “Paul Flory Polymer Research Prize” on April 2010 and “Certificate of friendship Award of Liaoning Province in China” on September 2011.

Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

Lavinia BALAN obtained the PhD degree from the University Henry Poincaré in Nancy, France, in 2005. Her PhD was devoted to the elaboration of an original material for the anode of Li-ion batteries. After a post doctorate in Orleans and then in Mulhouse, she joined the Department of Photochemistry (DPG) of Mulhouse in 2006 as a CNRS Senior Researcher. She opened a new field of research in this laboratory, viz. the photo-assisted synthesis of metal nanoparticles and metal-polymer nanocomposite materials. Since December 2009, L. Balan joined the Institute of Materials Science of Mulhouse (IS2M)-CNRS. She has published more than 100 scientific publications, 4 book chapters and 5 patents. Dr. L. Balan has been serving as an editorial board member for few scientific journals.

Her lines of research are concerned with photochemical synthesis of metal/polymer nanocomposites and design, customization and characterization of metal nanoparticles and nanocrystals (quantum dots) suited for advanced applications in the fields of optic, photonics, plasmonics, imaging or biology.

Jae-Jin Shim received his BS degree from Seoul National University in 1980, MS degree from KAIST in 1982, PhD degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He has been a professor in Yeungnam University since 1994 and served as School Chairman and Vice-Dean of Engineering. He served as the President of the Korean Society of Clean Technology and Vice President of the Korean Society of Engineering Education. He is the Directors of the Institute of Clean Technology and the Clean Energy Priority Research Center. He has published more than 150 papers in reputed journals and served as the Chief Editor of “Clean Technology”. His current research interests are synthesis and applications of graphene (or carbon nanotube)-based nanomaterials for supercapacitors, catalysts, and sensors; syntheses of polymers and organic materials using supercritical fluids and ionic liquids; living polymerization in supercritical fluids and ionic liquids; and clean technology.

Jau Tang is a Distinguished Professor in the Institute of Technological Sciences at Wuhan University in China. His research areas include nanoscience, 4D electron microscopy, ultrafast phenomena, single-molecule spectroscopy, phase transitions, plasma hydrodynamics, optoelectronics, synthetic diamond growth, photochemistry and electron transfer reactions. He has received his PhD degree from UC Berkeley (1981) and has worked at Argonne National Lab, Bell Labs, Caltech prior to Wuhan University.

His research areas include nanoscience, 4D electron microscopy, ultrafast phenomena, single-molecule spectroscopy, phase transitions, plasma hydrodynamics, optoelectronics, synthetic diamond growth, photochemistry and electron transfer reactions.

Jean-Luc Pelouard has completed his PhD from Paris-Sud University at Orsay, France and Postdoctoral studies from NCSU at Raleigh, USA. Since 2000, he is the Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research. He is currently co-managing the common research laboratory MiNaO between CNRS and ONERA that is devoted to both fundamental and applied studies on infrared properties of sub-wavelength nanostructures. He has published more than 150 papers in reputed journals. He holds 15 international patents and has supervised 22 PhD theses.

His research interest include Optical properties of nanoparticules, supracrystals, and structured surfaces Nano-structured infrared photo-detectors and sources.

Xianfang Zhu is one of the earliest scientists who initialized nanoresearch in China with over 30 years of research, teaching and industrial experience in a wide range of materials science and engineering areas. He has received PhD at the Australian National University followed up with a Postdoctoral experience at University of Illinois at Urbana, Champaign. He is presently the Director of the China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Nanomaterials, an Adjunct Professor at The University of Queensland and a Full-Time Professor at Xiamen University, as well as the Chief Scientist for the AMAC International Inc., USA. Previously, he had also worked as a Senior Researcher in the Jefferson Lab and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia. His current research interests are focused on nano-instabilities, nanoprocessing and nanofabrication. He has co-authored over 100 publications, filed 10 patents, chaired and co-chaired or served as Committee or Advisory Board Member at over 30 international and national conferences and presented over 70 invited lectures and talks at universities, research institutes and major international conferences worldwide and is Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor of several international journals.

His current research interests are focused on nano-instabilities, nanoprocessing and nanofabrication.

Yung Joon Jung is a Professor at Northeastern University, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and co-faculty Director at Kostas Advanced Nano Characterization Center at Kostas Research Institute, Northeastern University. He has received PhD in Materials Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003. He has worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rensselaer and joined Northeastern University in 2005. His research focuses on investigating new synthetic routes for low dimensional nanomaterials and engineering their molecular structures. He also develops nanomanufacturing processes such as assembly and integration of nanomaterials and nanostructured architectures for nanoelectronics, flexible devices, various sensors and energy storage applications supported by National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, US Army, Ministry of Industry in Republic of Korea and other industries. He has published over 65 articles in journals and three book chapters. He is also a Co-Founder of Guradion Technologies that develops networkable high performance ion and radiation sensors.

Dr S. Joseph Antony is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds, U.K. He started his research career as an experimentalist in the area of photonic stress analysis and strength measurement of continuum bodies. However, over the past twenty years, his research focus is on the nano and micro mechanical modelling of particles and their assemblies with particular emphasis on developing structure-property relations. Joseph has published over 100 papers in several reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He actively participates in the activities of particle technology community in U.K and abroad. He holds membership in several international professional bodies and serves in technical committees in his area of research. Currently, he serves as a member of peer reviewers in his area of research for several international journals. He is the lead editor of the book on Advances in Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London (2004). He has won many awards, including the prestigious M.I.T Young Research Fellowship for Exemplary Research in Computational Mechanics and the Certificate of Merit as an Example of Outstanding Achievements in U.K Particle Science and Technology in 2002, PTSG, IChemE, U.K. He has served as a guest editor for the Jl. Granular Matter and the lead editor of the book ‘Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications’, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London in 2004. Presently Joseph serves as an editorial board member of the journal of Research Letters in Nanotechnology and editorial review board member of Scientific Journals International. Pyatenko A. was born in 1955 in Russia. He graduated Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1978. He had his PhD degree in Chemical Physics in 1981 at the same University. He had worked as researcher, senior researcher at Institute of High Temperatures Russian Academy of Science (IVTAN). Since 1993 he worked as senior researcher at National Institute of Advance Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan Since 2001 his main research interests are nanotechnology and laser processing. He published many papers in high rang journals, gave the invited lectures at several international Conferences. He is a specialist in nanoparticle synthesis, modification and resizing using laser technique.

Area of expertise: nanoparticle synthesis, processing and characterization; laser interaction with nanoparticles; light absorption and scattering by nanoparticles; processes of Nanoparticles aggregation, agglomeration and dispersion.

Dr. Osman Adiguzel graduated from Department of Physics, Ankara University, Turkey in 1974 and received PhD- degree from Dicle University, Diyarbakir-Turkey. He studied at Surrey University, Guildford, UK, as a post doctoral research scientist in 1986-1987, and his studies focused on shape memory alloys. He worked as research assistant, 1975-80, at Dicle University and shifted to Firat University in 1980. He became professor in 1996, and he has already been working as professor. He published over 50 papers in international and national journals; He joined over 100 conferences and symposia in international and national level as participant, invited speaker or keynote speaker with contributions. He served the program chair or conference chair/co-chair in some of these activities. His research interests are Shape memory effect and displacive phase transformations in shape memory alloys and other alloys, molecular dynamics simulations, alloy modeling, electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and crystallography.

Moon Ho Ham is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), South Korea. He has completed his BSc and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering at Yonsei University, South Korea. He was a Postdoctoral Associate in Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on nanomaterials including nanocarbon and 2D materials for nanoelectronic and energy applications.

Muhammad Usman, Former Director General of Agricultural Research System, Government of Pakistan who retired from service after a spotless career of about 35 years with senior level experience on research and development of integrated agricultural industries with regard to livestock and dairy development, poultry, aquaculture and apiculture, sustainable agricultural production system, fruits and vegetable, seed production, biofuels, biomass and bioenergy. Usman is basically an agricultural scientist with specialization of agricultural/ chemistry working as plant breeder with regard to the yield and quality of various agricultural crops, released several varieties, presented and published research papers on crops and renewable energy in the different conferences like Geneva. Usman established “Prominent Agro Based Industries SDN BHD” in Malaysia and “Foundation for Rural Development in Pakistan”, with primarily aims to work on integrated agricultural project for Rural Development through improvement in agriculture for rehabilitation of affected area.
