Nikolaus Stolterfoht started his career in the 70’s at the Hahn-Meitner Institute in Berlin, which is one of the national laboratories of Germany. He was the Head of a research group working in the field of atomic collisions with gaseous atoms and solids. He was the Professor at the University of Caen, France. Later, he re-joined to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

His research interest are Atomic collision physics based on high-energy accelerators, Electron spectroscopy of highly ionized atoms, Excitation mechanisms and atomic structure, Ion collisions in solids and at surfaces, Nanostructures.

M Vlcek has completed his PhD from Institute of Chemical Technology, Pardubice, Czechoslovakia. Presently, he is the Professor and Director of Center of Materials and Nanotechnologies at University of Pardubice, Czech Republic. He was also a Visiting Professor at Lehigh University, USA. He has published more than 130 papers and his research focuses mainly on photoinduced structural changes in chalcogenide glasses and application of this phenomenon in fields as photonics, diffractive optics and high resolution lithography.

Alexander M Korsunsky leads MBLEM lab at the University of Oxford and the Centre for In situ processing science (CIPS) at Research Complex at Harwell. He consults Rolls-Royce plc on matters of residual stress and structural integrity and is Editor-in-Chief of Materials & Design, a major Elsevier journal.

Giuseppe Mucci has graduated in Movement Science at Faculty of Medicine in Urbino, Italy. He is a Professor of Bio-Economy at the University of Lugano, Switzerland and Advisory Board Member of the University of Roma Tor Vergata. He has established Bioscience Institute in San Marino, Italy in 2007 and Bioscience Clinic in Dubai, UAE in 2013.

Jerzy Zajac is the Head of the Laboratory of Aggregates, Interfaces and Materials for Energy (AIME) belonging to the Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier. His research interest and expertise is focused on the thermodynamics and modeling of interfacial phenomena occurring at solid-liquid, solid-gas and liquid-liquid interfaces and colloidal phenomena in solutions of surfactants and polymers, as well as the conception and preparation of porous multifunctional materials for high-added-value applications in the field of environmental remediation and liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis. He teaches at the University of Montpellier on fundamentals of inorganic and physical chemistry of the undergraduate program, as well as on colloids and interfacial phenomena at the master’s level.

His research interests are Interfacial phenomena and mechanisms, design, conception and determination of surface properties of ordered porous materials for applications in Environmental Remediation. Microcalorimetry and thermodynamics of the phenomena studied

Prof. Dr. A. Abdelghani is a Full Professor at the National Institute of Applied Science and Technology (INSAT, Tunisia) working mainly in the field of Microsensors and Microsystems. He obtained the master degree in "Microelectronic Devices" at the INSA of Lyon (France) in 1994, then a Ph.D thesis from Ecole Centrale of Lyon (France) in 1997. He obtained a post-doc position in Germany between 1997-2000. He published more than 90 papers in International Journals and supervised more than 12 Ph.D thesis and 30 master students. Prof. Abdelghani is part of worldwide renowned scientists as editorial member of several peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is deeply involved in industrial applications in his field of research with implications for the design and the development of affordable and cost-effective sensing devices for diagnostics and theranostics which will have an effective impact in the developing countries.

His research interests are Microsensors and Microsystems.

Rafael Popper (PhD) is a Principal Scientist in Foresight, Organizational Dynamics and Systemic Change at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Research Fellow at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research of the University of Manchester. He is the Director of Executive Education in Foresight and Horizon Scanning at the Alliance Manchester Business School and Innovation Director and CEO of Futures Diamond Ltd (UK and Czech Republic). He has also worked at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and as Consultant for the European Commission, World Bank and other international, governmental and business organizations in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

His main areas of work include: ‘foresight’ as an instrument of policy, the development of foresight and horizon scanning methodology, the design of forward-looking activities and their evaluation.

Somnath Bhattacharyya is a Professor in the School of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. After completing his Doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, he has worked as a Researcher in the USA, Germany and England. Later, he established his new research group the Nano-Scale Transport Physics Laboratory at the University of the Witwatersrand. His major interest is in the transport properties of carbon and has achievements including the demonstration of resonant tunnel devices based on amorphous carbon, gigahertz transport in carbon devices, n-type doping of nanocrystalline diamond and developing theoretical models for transport in disordered carbon. He has published 04 book chapters and over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals.

His major interest is in the transport properties of carbon and has achievements including the demonstration of resonant tunnel devices based on amorphous carbon, gigahertz transport in carbon devices, n-type doping of nanocrystalline diamond and developing theoretical models for transport in disordered carbon.

Dr. Liang got Ph.D at National Key Laboratory of Biomacromolecules, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He finished his postdoc with Dr. Michael M. Gottesman for 5 years at Laboratory of Cell Biology, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Then, he worked as a Research Fellow at Surgical Neurology Branch, NINDS (National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Strokes, NIH) for 2 years. In 2007, he was an assistant professor at Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, Howard University. Dr. Liang currently is deputy director of Key Laboratory for Biomedical Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety, Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief of laboratory of Nanomedicine and Nanosafety, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology of China. Dr. Liang is a founder member of International Society of Nanomedicine, member of American Association for Cancer Research and Union for International Cancer Control. Dr. Liang is current editorial board member of 《Advances in Nano Research》 《Acta Biophysica Sinica》《Journal of Nanomaterials》and 《Current Nanoscience》, guest editor of 《Biotechnology Advances》. Dr. Liang was honored with 2004、2005、2006 “Fellows Award for Research Excellence” in NIH; “Special Government Allowances” by Department of State, 2011; “National Distinguished Young Scholars” by NSFC; and “Young Pharmaceutics Scholar” by CPA, 2012.

His research interests are in elucidating mechanisms to improve nanomedicinal bioavailability by nanotechnology in vivo, and novel strategies to increase therapeutic effect on cancers and infective diseases. Developing drug delivery strategies for prevention/treatment of AIDS and cancers are current program ongoing in Dr. Liang's lab based on understanding of basic physio-chemical and biological processes of nanomedicine. Most protocols are employed for delivering therapeutic molecules (chemical compounds or nucleic acids) to actively target cells or tissues in vivo to enhance drug safety and efficacy.

Prof. Amine Bermak received the Masters and PhD degrees, both in microelectronics and Microsystems, from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France in 1994 and 1998, respectively. After his PhD, he joined Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia as a research fellow working on smart vision sensors. In January 2000, he was appointed Lecturer and promoted to Senior Lecturer in December 2001. In July 2002, he joined the ECE Department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he held a full Professor position and ECE Associate Head for Research and Postgraduate studies. Currently, Prof. Bermak is with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Foundation, Qatar and has been holding a full professor appointment as well as acting Associate Provost. Over the last decade, Prof. Bermak has acquired a significant academic and industrial experience. He has taught 20 different courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. For his excellence and outstanding contribution to teaching, he was nominated for the 2013 Hong Kong UGC best teacher award (for all HK Universities). He is the recipient of the 2011 University Michael G. Gale Medal for distinguished teaching (Highest University-wide Teaching Award). Prof. Bermak is also a two-time recipient of the “Engineering School Teaching Excellence Award" in HKUST for 2004 and 2009, respectively. Prof. Bermak has received Six distinguished awards, including the “Best University Design Contest Award” at ASP Design Automation Conference (DAC) in Macau 2016; “Best student paper award” at IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and systems ISCAS 2010; the 2004 “IEEE Chester Sall Award” from IEEE Consumer electronics society; the IEEE Service Award from IEEE Computer Society and the “Best Paper Award” at the 2005 International Workshop on System-On-Chip for Real-Time Applications. He has published over 260 articles in journals, book chapters and conference proceedings and designed over 30 chips. He has graduated 16 PhD and 16 MPhil students. He has served on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems and the Sensors Journal. He is also currently serving on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems and the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices (TED). He is also an editor for Nature Scientific report. Prof. Bermak is a Fellow of IEEE and IEEE distinguished Lecturer. He is recognized as the world-leading author in the sensors area as well as the inventor of time-domain sensing.

Dr. Yash Pathak is a nationally recognized scholar, researcher and educator in the areas of Nanotechnology, Drug Delivery Systems and Nutraceuticals.He is currently a Professor at the University of South Florida. Mike S Scurrell is Research Professor in the Department of Civil and Chemical Engineering at the University of South Africa and Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. His research interests concern heterogeneous catalysis and nanomaterials, especially for energy conversion and environmental processes and he is also involved in novel nanomaterials synthesis involving microwave radiation and non-thermal plasma treatment.

Prof. Ben Zhong TANG is Stephen K. C. Cheong Professor of Science, and Chair Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His research interests include macromolecular chemistry, materials science, and biomedical theranostics. He is spearheading the research on aggregation-induced emission (AIE), a topic ranked no. 2 in the areas of Chemistry and Materials Science by Thomson Reuters in its report on Research Fronts 2015, and also 2016. Prof. TANG received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from South China University of Technology and Kyoto University, respectively. He conducted postdoctoral research at University of Toronto. He joined HKUST as an assistant professor in 1994 and was promoted to chair professor in 2008. He was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2009 and 2013, respectively. Prof. TANG has published more than 900 papers, which have been cited more than 40,000 times, with an h-index of 101. He has been listed by Thomson Reuters as a Highly Cited Researcher in both areas of Chemistry and Materials Science. He received a Natural Science Award from the Chinese Government and a Senior Research Fellowship from the Croucher Foundation in 2007. He is now serving as Editor-in-Chief of Materials Chemistry Frontiers (RSC & CCS).

Xianfang Zhu is one of the earliest scientists who initialized nanoresearch in China with over 30 years of research, teaching and industrial experience in a wide range of materials science and engineering areas. He has received PhD at the Australian National University followed up with a Postdoctoral experience at University of Illinois at Urbana, Champaign. He is presently the Director of the China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Nanomaterials, an Adjunct Professor at The University of Queensland and a Full-Time Professor at Xiamen University, as well as the Chief Scientist for the AMAC International Inc., USA. Previously, he had also worked as a Senior Researcher in the Jefferson Lab and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia. His current research interests are focused on nano-instabilities, nanoprocessing and nanofabrication. He has co-authored over 100 publications, filed 10 patents, chaired and co-chaired or served as Committee or Advisory Board Member at over 30 international and national conferences and presented over 70 invited lectures and talks at universities, research institutes and major international conferences worldwide and is Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor of several international journals.

His current research interests are focused on nano-instabilities, nanoprocessing and nanofabrication.

Professor Taleb has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University, USA in 1997. Taleb Ibrahim has taught and worked on research in chemical engineering and chemistry departments for more than 19 years at universities such as Auburn University and Tuskegee University, USA and American University of Sharjah in the UAE. His areas of research and teaching interest are interfacial phenomena/surface, colloidal science, materials science, corrosion, separation processes and thermodynamics. In his research, emphasis is placed on problems that are related but not limited to polymers, composite materials, pharmaceutical products, environmental issues and corrosion. He has published over 100 journal, book chapters and conference papers and organized/chaired many conferences. In addition, he served/serving as guest editor for the Journal of desalination and water treatment and the Journal of Applied Composite Materials.

Prof. Wenjun Zhang studied physics and materials science at Lanzhou University, PR China. (B.Sc. 1988, M. Sc. 1991, Ph.D. 1994). He was a post doc at the Fraunhofer institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films (FhG-IST) in Braunschweig, Germany, from 1995 till 1997. He became a research fellow in City University Hong Kong from 1997 till 1998, then spent two years in National Institute for Research in Inorganic Materials (NIRIM), Japan as a Science and Technology Agency (STA) Fellow. In December 2000 he joined City University Hong Kong again as a senior research fellow. He is now a Professor in the Department of Physics and Materials Science, and he is also the deputy director of the Center Of Super Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF). Prof. Zhang has authored/co-authored of over 300 peer-reviewed journal papers.

Ajay Kumar Mishra is a full Professor at the Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability Research Unit at College of Science, Engineering & Technology, University of South Africa, Florida Science Campus, South Africa. Prof. Mishra is currently working for University of South Africa as “Full Professor” since January 2015. He is also working as “Adjunct Professor” at Jiangsu University, China. His research interests include synthesis nanomaterials/composites, smart materials, and water research. He has authored over 100 scientific papers. He has delivered a number of including Plenary/Keynote/Invited Lectures. For his outstanding research profile, he was awarded a number of international awards. Prof. Mishra also served as Associate Editor as well as member of the editorial board of many peer-reviewed international journals. Xijun Hu is Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from South China University of Technology (1982) and Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia (1993). After two years postdoctoral work at the University of Queensland, he joined the faculty of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1994. Professor Hu is a member of the Board of Directors of International Adsorption Society (IAS), associate editor of two journals and in the editorial board of International Journal of Chemical Engineering, has edited 1 book, published over 140 technical articles and presented more than 70 conference papers. He also has 3 patents. Rabah Ali Khalil is a full Professor of Physical Chemistry in University of Mosul, College of Science, Chemistry Department. He completed his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at University of Mosul in 1994, his M. Phil. Degree in Inorganic Chemistry at University of Sheffield in 1990 and his B.Sc. in General Chemistry at University of Mosul as a1st among 128 students. Professor Shihe Yang is currently Professor in the Department of Chemistry. Professor Yang got his B.Sc. in Chemistry (Polymer Chemistry) from Yat-Sen Sun University, China in 1982 and Ph.D. in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry) from Rice University, USA in 1988. Professor Yang is an expert in chemistry of finite systems, nanomaterials, and energy conversion. He and co-workers contributed significantly to the understanding and development of cluster science, fullerenes/metallofullerenes, novel nanomaterials chemistry, new generation solar cells, and other energy conversion devices. He is an author/co-author of over 380 international journal papers with more than 11,000 citations and an h-index of 52 (Web of Science). Prof Yang’s scientific research has been recognized by a number of awards, including China's State Natural Science award , the Overseas Distinguished Young Scholars Award (NSFC), and the Yangtze River Chair Professorship. Prof. Yang is an editorial board member of several international journals, including Sustainable Energy (Hans Publishers), International Journal of Nanotechnology (Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.), Frontiers of Optoelectronics (Energy Photonics) (Springer).

Dr S. Joseph Antony is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds, U.K. He started his research career as an experimentalist in the area of photonic stress analysis and strength measurement of continuum bodies. However, over the past twenty years, his research focus is on the nano and micro mechanical modelling of particles and their assemblies with particular emphasis on developing structure-property relations. Joseph has published over 100 papers in several reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He actively participates in the activities of particle technology community in U.K and abroad. He holds membership in several international professional bodies and serves in technical committees in his area of research. Currently, he serves as a member of peer reviewers in his area of research for several international journals. He is the lead editor of the book on Advances in Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London (2004).
